Fixing the “Script Not Detected” Error

When you add a website to Webvizio, you may see the “Script Not Detected” error. It means Webvizio couldn’t find the Webvizio script on your page. The script lets Webvizio display your site accurately and keep comments pinned in the right places. This article covers the most common causes and how to fix each one.

“The script is not detected for this project” warning in Webvizio while the website still loads in the project

What causes the error

  • The script isn’t installed. The script is missing from the page you added to the project.
  • The page is cached. The script is installed, but your site, hosting, or CDN is still serving an older cached copy of the page without it.
  • The script is installed incorrectly. The code was changed when it was pasted, or it was placed in the wrong part of the page.

How to fix it

1. Check that the script is on the page

  1. Open the page in an incognito window or a different browser, so you aren’t looking at a cached version.
  2. Open the page source: press Ctrl+U on Windows or Cmd+Option+U on Mac.
  3. Search the source for webvizio (Ctrl+F / Cmd+F).

If you can’t find it, the script isn’t installed on this page or the page is cached. Go to the next steps.

2. Clear your site’s cache

If you added the script recently, your site may still be serving the old version of the page. Clear every cache layer your site uses:

  • Your caching plugin (for example, in WordPress)
  • Your hosting provider’s cache
  • Your CDN cache, such as Cloudflare

Then reload the page in an incognito window, check the source again, and refresh your Webvizio project.

Reinstall the script correctly

  1. In Webvizio, go to Project Settings → Project and check Enable script on this website.
  2. Copy the script exactly as shown. Don’t edit or reformat it.
  3. Paste it at the end of the <head> tag, right before </head>.
  4. Publish the changes, clear your cache, and reload your project page in Webvizio.

📝

Note: Install the script before you continue working on the project. If it isn’t installed correctly, you’ll see this message: “The script is not detected for this project. Please check the installation guide and try again.”

Still seeing the error?

If the script is installed but the error remains, and your site doesn’t appear in the background in Webvizio, your site’s security settings may be blocking it. See the article “Fixing the ‘Webvizio Was Blocked by the Website’ Error.”
